& ships (and smarm) existed before Homestuck, too. So did multishipping! Really unless you're shipping ashen everywhere, or insisting on everybody filling their quadrants completely just in case the Imperial Drones show up, you can't really blame Homestuck for anything except giving you a more systematic vocabulary to use.

Yeah, I definitely shipped a ton of blackrom before I became a Homestuck. It just helps to have something to call it. (Admittedly, Foe Yay worked pretty well too)

Anon, us trollshippers are a fine and beleagured lot: non-Homestucks hate us for bringing Homestuck into everything, intense Homestucks hate us for only caring about trollmance and not what the true fans care about. But we will persist until every corner of fandom knows what a moirail is, whether they want to or not.! Yes. Because once you put on the trollshipping goggles, it just all makes so much more sense.

(I went and programmed my own automatic shipping grid generator (http://melannen.katycat.net/shipgrid/shipgrid.html) because all the existing ones were to Homestuck-specific and I need to make one for EVERY FANDOM, dammit.)

(when you start combining troll quadrants and sedoretu in completely unrelated fandoms, that's when it's time to worry a little.)

Are there support groups/communities for troll romance shippers outside of Homestuck? Because I'm basically not a Homestuck fan at all but my friends intro'd me to troll romance quadrants and now I cannot stop seeing them in every ship I have in every fandom ever and I need people to geek out with.

I think words/definitions just let you experience/absorb your surroundings more, you *see* more, your focus is different. And yeah, I love getting a kick out of applying these relationship standards.
What I love about <> and ><3 is romanticizing responsibility, emotional support, ambition/rivalry and respect in a relationship. (And the unsexual nature of <>!) Of course our definition of love can also cover these, but it's more specialised here.
