There are people bothered by it. Unfortunately, there seem to be way more people bothered by the fact people are bothered by it.

Yeah, that's been my impression, too. I've seen WAY more people who are bothered by the fact that some people aren't willing to overlook the rape and violence than there are people who abstain for those reasons in the first place. o__O For every person who says, "I don't want to watch this show or read the books because it has too much rape for my taste" there are five more who jump in and cry, "But you can't FAULT the series for that because it's thematically correct!!!" ...idk.

The way I figure it, if someone wants to stay out of your fandom for reasons you disagree with, why not just let them be? Odds are you probably don't WANT them in your fandom if you're going to disagree so vehemently. Everyone would be a lot happier if everyone would just let the dissenters dissent.

That's basically my problem with it. I'm fine with people liking the books and the show - I'd just like it if they didn't feel the need to jump all over me for not liking it and saying the the fact that the world within them is a shithole is not something that I enjoy.

I don't think the problem is that people don't like it for the amount of rape/murder/abuse that is present in the series - I think the problem is that a lot of the people who don't like the books for that reason are also trying to tell the people who DO like the series that they are assholes and rape apologists/rape fetishists/misogynists for not disliking the series.
