Holy shit, did you just pull out the "actual rape" card? So what, it has to have at least two paragraphs dedicated to the act and how horrible it is before you'll let someone say it creeped them out?

Are you really that dense?

A character mentioning rape doesn't qualify as a rape scene anymore than a character threatening to shoot someone qualifies as a scene where someone is shot. Yes Westeros is a crapsack world where rape is a reality but the scenes of actual rape are minimal.

Be creeped out all you want, that's your prerogative, but don't make it sound like it's worse than it is.

I think there is a difference between "mentioning rape that didn't happen i.e. treatening to rape someone/someone deserves to be raped etc." and "mentioning rape that DID happen".

(Anonymous) 2012-12-29 03:32 am (UTC)(link)
I'm not referring to the latter, obviously. The other anon was referring to examples of the former as "rape scenes" to prove her point.

that's because threatening to shoot someone != someone being shot.
Let's change it though. Say there were 25 mentions of kittens being drowned. None of these scenes are prolonged but it's very clear the kittens are being/going to be/have been drowned. It's still pretty fucked up even if you don't have pages of details.

That is a really good analogy. You don't have to read about something in detail to be bothered by knowing that it's happening pretty often in the background.
