While your point is good, there is one thing I felt the need to point out

Estimated Population UK in 2009: 61,126,832

Estimated POpulation US 2009: 305,529,237

Thus, what you actually want is the ratio of deaths by firearms per person, or percentage of population dead because of firearms, essentially.

Those numbers would be:

UK: 0.0002258%

US: 0.003762%


It's a figure that makes more sense. Ideally, you'd want an estimate of the number of deaths in each country for 2009 and then the ratio of fire-arm related deaths to all deaths, but I am too lazy to try and hunt down that information.
