(Anonymous) 2012-12-29 04:43 am (UTC)(link)That is exactly why this type of thing bothers me. It's so prevalent that it sort of becomes a white noise in the background of the story. In my experience the types of authors who go in for background rape also seem the type who think they need to use rape or the threat of rape as some sort of character-building for female characters in their books, too. Because, you know, rape is the only thing that can make a female character strong or determined or interesting!
