GRUDGES!

(Anonymous) 2012-12-29 06:52 pm (UTC)(link)
Do you hold them? Do you hate them? And how much grudge is too much?

Personally, I tend to hug and pet my grudges like kittens. A flourishing grudge adds spice to life! But even I think you can take them too far.

For instance: I grew up hearing the story of how my mother's wedding was delayed because a cousin of my dad's, who was responsible for getting my grandmother to the church, couldn't tear himself away from a football game on television. It was an especially sore point with Mom because she has always been late for everything. So now she had people laughing that she was late for her own wedding, and for once, it wasn't her fault.

Last year, right before their golden wedding anniversary, I made the mistake of asking Mom how long the wedding had been delayed. I always assumed it was something like an hour.

It was fifteen minutes.

And she was still as mad about it as if it happened last year instead of 50 years ago.

I can't hold grudges. I can't. I've tried, but once I actually get to bed it's all lost; by the next day I'm all like, "oh, what the fuck, who cares". Poof. All the resentment, evaporated. vOv

If someone truly wronged me then I just go out of my way to avoid them as much as I can.

That's actually an amazing way to manage your life--I'm not sure I could emulate it, but I can certainly admire it.
