I've never heard of antibiotics to be taken WITHOUT food either --- you might want to load up on yogurt (esp. the probiotic stuff), or bananas a few hours to either side of taking the pills, just so you don't end up with a nasty stomach bug as a result of the pills leaving your gut a desert wasteland. Eat the skins on your potatoes, and the peel on your apples, too.

The key to swallowing pills is determining which way to tilt your head to make the tablet go down the easiest (this is different for every person); to either side, or looking up or down, it might take a few missed attempts before you get it, but once you do, you're pretty much golden -- the antibiotics are the worst, these days 9 times out of 10 you're looking at these huge horse pills that look like they could have been prescribed by the vet.
