It's expecting people to go out of their way to enable other peoples' hangups so they don't have to suck it up and deal with it like adults, that's what. Upsetting and traumatic shit happens in life, sometimes it gets mentioned, and if someone has trouble coping with this fundamental fact of reality that is THEIR PROBLEM, not the responsibility of everybody who ever wrote anything ever.

I understand what you're trying to say, but do you understand that an actual disorder, like PTSD (and not just Tumblr PTSD, which is basically just "anything that bothers or annoys me = PTSD and needs a trigger warning"), is not going to be fixed by forcing somebody to confront something that they aren't ready to confront yet? PTSD is not just "I don't like this and looking at it will make me sad". It can trigger somebody into an episode of hyperventilation, anxiety, depression, and even a total loss of touch with reality. I have personally seen somebody totally break down after seeing a graphic rape scene in a movie that they didn't know was in it. Forcing someone with a legitimate disorder like PTSD to see something they aren't ready to confront yet is not curing them or making them better and, in fact, it can actually set them back in their treatment. Have you ever heard of cognitive behavioral therapy before? CBT is based on the idea that gradual exposures to traumatic or anxiety-inducing stimuli will eventually retrain the brain into becoming less afraid whenever they are confronted by that stimulus. The reason that the exposure is gradual and doesn't just start with the thing you're the most afraid of is that going to that extreme too quickly can actually have the effect of making that person MORE afraid of the thing that triggers them. So, people with PTSD or other anxiety disorders (or people who experience flashbacks but do not have PTSD) are not just "being weak" and "need to suck it up". It is a physiological reaction that they literally cannot help, and posting a trigger warning, for someone who experiences flashbacks, can make all the difference between contentedly reading their favorite fan fictions, and experiencing a traumatic flashback of something they aren't ready to confront yet. And, really, it's not like they're asking a lot. Is it ridiculous to ask someone to warn for something like "meatspace", or I don't know, boys kissing or something like that? Absolutely. But I don't think it's stupid to ask somebody to warn for something like rape. Because really, all you have to do is type like, six fucking words, and it could make all the difference for somebody who has just been raped.

I didn't want to do what SJWs normally do and just completely fucking explode on him for having an opinion that was different or offended me (which, to be honest, as somebody with an anxiety disorder for which I am on disability and who regularly experiences flashbacks, it did).
