Just... keep it in mind. If it's not backed up by any other comments or behavior, maybe it's ok. However, usually you'll see a pattern of jokes, who they side with in celebrity or fictional stories, offhand comments, etc. If their "harmless" behavior implies that they enjoy violence (especially sexualized violence) against women, keep that in mind and don't be alone with them, and look out for your female friends when they're around him.

It's all a matter of odds. Some are dangerous, some aren't, but once you see enough indicators, yeah, better safe than sorry.

Why is that even a reason to brag? Not only is it creepy as fuck behavior that would make me run away and never come back but it would also make me think they're a loser. Isn't killing prostitutes ridiculously easy in that game? Go do something difficult (and less creepy) and then come brag to me.

Probably neither. I've known some totally sane people to go on killings sprees in GTA. If it's just a form of release, and those behaviors don't carry over into r/l, I don't consider it a huge problem. If it shows that they consider violence against prostitutes a-okay in a real life setting, that's another matter.

I would tell them that kind of thing makes me uncomfortable so please shut up. If they apologize and change the subject, I can figure they're probably just blowing steam or goofing off when they do such things but could still be a good friend. If they get defensive or mock me, I can tell they're a douche, and quite likely a misogynist, and know they're not worth my time.

But I get why you would feel creeped out or scared, depending on the setting. People should know not to talk like that in polite company, and when a guy acts more informal than you want him to be, especially when it comes to talking about sex and violence, it makes perfect sense to be creeped out.
