dunno, maybe les miserables fandom is a particularly rabid fandom that will hound down dissenters?

it happens sometimes

Why does this matter?

If OP had seen the play or the movie or had read the book and disliked it, then you would have a point. But a person who dissents for the sake of it without having seen/read the material is an idiot at best and an asshole at worst. I can't fathom why you would defend such a person.

wait what where is this defensiveness even coming from

1. i was defending no one; just explaining that we've had secrets along these lines where it made sense for the op not to want to say something under their username where a rabid fandom might see it and dogpile the op. there are fandoms with fairly bullying and stalkerish reputations. that was all.

2. op didn't say that they haven't read the book or any other adaptation, just that they didn't get the hype and so they were going to go watch the movie, which makes your point null in the case the op hadn't seen the material to form an opinion

3. and what is wrong with not wanting to watch/read/play something because it doesn't sound like your cup of tea and not getting why people like the premise? i personally have zero interest in les miserables, just by reading the summary/synopsis i can tell it's the complete opposite of the stories i like. nothing wrong with that, and nothing wrong with op

same with the dark knight rises, same with tons of other hyped movies/books/videogames/tv-shows

There's nothing wrong with not wanting to watch or read something that doesn't interest you. There is something wrong with judging people who are into something that you're not -- and this is only made worse by the fact of one not having actually experienced it.

what is judging about not seeing the attractive? admittedly, op could have used less blunt language, but they didn't call the fans idiots or something
