I didn't say that you can't be a "real" fan. I said that to say you can feel the same thing for something you saw on a screen as a live audience saw in a Broadway theater, you are mistaken.

The original novel? LOL! That doesn't compare to the Broadway version GOSH OMG LOL LOL LOL.

Everyone has a unique process of connecting to media, which also determines what does it for them. This means that the film might actually speak more intensely to some people who have seen the show live and on broadway than the live performance did, which is really not a bad thing.

Maybe they can't "believe" a Fantine who is obviously well nourished? Maybe they need the "full viewing area" set a film provides? Maybe they just don't like sitting in an always-somewhat-audible audience?

This list is of maybes is really long. You don't know anything about other people's emotional response, so check yourself before you assume based on your own.
