When I'm reading fic porn, I put myself into one of the character's places, doing that with a female character makes me too self-concious and takes me out of the fantasy. I am kind of disturbed by descriptions of female genitalia as mine are wierd looking and I can't help thinking of that when reading het. Slash is much more "not me" and therefore more fun.

It's a pain in the backside :) And no, not yet. I got a lace-making for beginners kit for Christmas so this is a very new hobby!

YOU CAN DO IT

Be warned that he's hardly in the first movie (although you should see the first if you are going to see the other two... just make sure you go and pee first).

I really wanted to like her because her character design was rad... but yeah, she never got interesting or likable *shrug*.

I'll never understand people's problem with Yukari though, wherever I go people just reason it with "she's a BITCH", but I never got it.

Mte, hair twin!

It CAN be done, it just takes a lot of work. And more than a few hairpins/ties.

That makes a lot of sense to me. I'm glad to hear that, actually, since that's how I imagined it would probably be like.

I used to do cross-stitch when I was younger, as well as traditional drawing/painting... now in my adult life I learned to sew and started cosplaying, which has taught me all kinds of useful crafty skills aside from sewing. I do a lot of resin casting these days, and prop-making... but I just started an Etsy shop not long ago for plushies and bead-weaving. The girlfriend taught me bead-weaving because she's been into jewelry-making for a long time, and I realized I could do video game sprite art with it. ;) And the plushies are because now that I do resin casting, I realized I could make custom eyes for them in any color/shape/style I want. I might throw some resin stuff in there eventually too, figurines and whatnot...

I use tumblr almost entirely on my phone, so I don't think tumblr savior is an option, right? My dash is pretty good about having content I like, but occasionally I'll see something that seriously annoys me and hiss at my screen.

I was disappointed with Ouran. I really liked how Haruhi comes right out and says her gender is just not a big deal to her, because that's how I feel personally and it's so rare to encounter in fiction. But then...yeah. The execution tries, and could be worse, but it's not great.

I'm pretty fucking bipolar and I thought she was boring and only existed to get fridged and pretty much agree with the OP

And usually I like mentally ill characters but I don't think she was really a good example of one

So unless you fit a certain demographic, you can't comment on the bad elements of something? I'm really not comfortable with that. I mean, by that logic...nobody over a certain age can comment on a cartoon's portrayal of gender because it's meant for kids. Women can't comment on most forms of media because it's primarily aimed at men. Minorities can't comment on poor portrayals in media aimed at the majority. Japanese people can't comment on any poor portrayals of them in Western media. IDK, the whole thing doesn't make sense to me.

Not to mention that a lot of anime is created with keeping the Western market in mind...particularly anime made in the 2000s. For example, Kino's Journey was funded with money from the American licensing company ADV, Funimation has made several deals to create anime versions of American properties (like Witchblade, Dragon Age and Mass Effect), I believe I recall hearing that Black Blood Brothers was trying to capture the same American market that liked shows like Trigun, etc etc.

I don't know what to say to this secret other than I find it...kind of sweet? It's just nice when people can recognise how centred on their own culture things can be, which I guess almost always only applies to the US and Brit media as they're the things likely to be consumed worldwide. I don't know, it was just nice for me seeing the reverse of what I sometimes experienced. As a Brit, growing up I sometimes thought "wait, what does that mean/that doesn't happen here/just generally WHAT!?" about some shows or films set in the USA. It actually never occurred to me it could happen the other way around, for many years! I dunno, it's New Year's Day here now so I might not be making any sense thanks to alcohol.

Makes perfect sense! Thank you. This comment inspired me to just start. I am quite good at drawing face profiles, because that's what I practice the most on, but what it comes to the rest of the body... everything is so off lol. Practice does make perfect, doesn't it?

I think I'll start tonight :)

I'm a workaholic who works for a college, so I was forced to take winter break off... I hate it too. Every morning I wake up and want to log into my work account, but I'm not allowed to work until Wednesday. ;_;

I don't get why anyone would hate Yukari either. Her English voice is kinda weird (I mostly just think it's funny... "MY SKILL LEVEL HAS INCREASED!") but that's it. How is she a bitch? Can someone explain?
ariakas: (Default)

[personal profile] ariakas 2013-01-01 01:15 am (UTC)(link)
Me neither. The Yukari part, that is. She seemed like a normal teenaged girl, to me. A little self-centered and inconsiderate, but most people are at that age. Junpei certainly was too, at times.

Whatever keeps you solid and your feet on the ground, OP.

Ah, okay. That makes me feel a lot better about not being able to just know things automatically. Plus, I reallyyy really obsess with the characters in the fandoms I'm involved in, especially fashion for Final Fantasy, so I think becoming familiar with the details won't be a problem at all. It will take tons of practice and even more time, but I think I can do it.
