It's funny because the behaviour you view as "superior" they view as...well, not, to say the least.

This is what bugs me the most about them. I can deal with them basically being "look at these stupid foreigners let's all laugh at them," but if you're going to do that, at least get the stereotypes right, damnit!

What's "obnoxious" by Japanese standards sometimes just comes across as "confident" by American ones.

Too bad she's a horrible excuse for a character and really the only example of a Mary Sue I've personally seen in years

YES FINALLY SOMEBODY WHO AGREES. I can't stand her and everybody I know can't stop gushing over how awesome and amazing and perfect and wonderful she is, and I wonder if we're talking about the same character.

I can't hate her because I can't shake the feeling she's just some kind of weird meta-joke or something. I never got the impression we're supposed to take her seriously.

I read in an interview somewhere that she only exists as a joke. Kind of like when they added a third character to The Itchy & Scratchy show on the Simpsons. Same thing.

Yeah a joke called GAINAX CASH GRAB cause fanboys splooge all over her buying the sexy figurines or whatever the fuck of her

Also I get that she's a reference to like, Go Nagai anime and a joke or whatever but that doesn't make her any less fucking annoying AND UNNECESSARY and I always thought Evangelion was more of a deconstruction of the super robot genre than a "fuck you" to otaku? I mean in interviews and such it's obvious that Anno was always dead serious about the plot of this thing, just because Evangelion isn't always well-received among fans doesn't make it a "fuck you"
