elaminator: (The Hobbit: Bilbo - Sting)

He was only in about two minutes of the movie though... Granted, considering the minuscule amount of screen time he had, he's in a lot of fanart. But he's got a bigger role in the other movies, and he's pretty, and fandom likes pretty people.

I'm not really a fan of Thranduil myself, but I don't see that much of him either.

I think the fanart is partially because of people who were already Lee Pace fans. Then again, maybe not, but I know a lot of the art I've seen is from people who liked him before the movie, so they latched onto Thranduil as a result.

Ah, that might be the case. I didn't consider that but that often happens in fandom.

I'm not too familiar with him myself and I've never much liked Thranduil, but some of the art is beautiful. There are some talented people in Hobbit fandom.

Yeah, there's a lot of bleed over in fandom like that. Haha. He's got a decent sized cult following because of Pushing Daisies, The Fall, and Soldier's Girl, too, so I think that's feeding into it. Then again, it could just be that I follow a lot of Lee Pace fans?

They do have really amazing art. People can say what they will about Tumblr, but I appreciate it just for all the amazeballs fanart. This reminds me I should probably go check the Hobbit tags on pixiv and DA, too.

Might be a bit of both. Of course if you follow Lee Pace fans they'll probably post more of him in his various roles, but Thranduil himself might have fangirls too, idk.

Oh, I haven't done that! Thanks for the (inadvertent) suggestion! (And I agree. I made a tumblr just for Hobbit stuff, but I'm seeing a lot of great graphics and art from other fandoms as well.)

Haha, you're welcome! Since your comment is what made me think of it, I guess we're even. ;)(If you find good people to follow and avoid a lot of the tags, Tumblr can be awesome! Also, if you get Tumblr Savior that can save a lot of headache and help you avoid potential annoyance. I love it just for all the pretty art, fanart, and awesome ST and comics blogs that I follow.)

I use tumblr almost entirely on my phone, so I don't think tumblr savior is an option, right? My dash is pretty good about having content I like, but occasionally I'll see something that seriously annoys me and hiss at my screen.

Any art recs?

Uh, so I have less than I thought, but I didn't reblog everything either, so I'm sure there's more if you search the Thranduil tag on tumblr. Or deviantART. There might be some around LJ too, IDK; I haven't went searching for comms.
