2012 in Film

[personal profile] morieris 2013-01-02 12:39 am (UTC)(link)
This has been a pretty big year for movie ticket sales - what did you think about movies last year?

I like how enthused people were about Avengers, even if I thought the film itself was boring. On a numbers front, it's interesting to read. I also thought we had a very strong year for animation (2013 isn't looking so hot).

I thought it was a pretty good year for genre films. Usually, you have one or two good horror/sci-fi/fantasy/comic book themed films and the rest is either just cheesy shlock or horrible but not even a good way. But there were quite a few that I loved even starting in the beginning of the year with The Woman in Black, Chronicle and The Cabin in the Woods. And from there it kept on getting better. I hope 2013 continues the trend.

Before 2012 came along, Entertainment Weekly had an article noting that 2012 would be the "nerdiest" year in film, and it was! It was a really big year, and no matter what fandoms I didn't like, it really seemed to satisfy the fans of their certain fandoms.

I'm pretty sure I've never seen as many good films in one year before as I did in 2012. I am pretty hard to please when it comes to siitting through visual stuff, and there were seven films in 2012 that I didn't find tedious. And one of those, Cloud Atlas, just might be the most wonderful thing I've ever seen - definitely the best nerdfilm to come out in years.

I thought 2012 was a really strong film year. I was very impressed and also pleased with the number of films I finished and loved.

Films I loved this year: Wanderlust, Avengers, The Dark Knight Rises, Pitch Perfect, Brave, Breaking Dawn: Part 2 (don't judge me), Wreck-it-Ralph

I still need to see The Hobbit and Star Trek but both of them look promising.

I saw two movies this year! Two! :D

(Hey, that's big for me. I'm not a big movie person and all I've seen in the theatre in the past decade or so have been Lord of the Rings, Star Wars, Harry Potter... but this year, I saw The Hobbit and Brave! Gasp!)

Lots of decent films this year, hopefully there will be something fun to watch this year as well.
