You're welcome. :) I don't even come on here all that often. My roommate was like "you could have posted this fandom secret. It's about David not looking enough like The Governor." I really don't like the character on the show. He gave me nightmares while reading the comics but he's too classy on the show. No where creepy enough. I wish they had let him be darker.

As he creeps me the fuck out on the show, I don't know if I could handle him being scarier. LOL But I agree (just from comments I've read from people who have read the comics as I have not) that the show seems to be trying to make him more of a sympathetic character in ways that the comic did not.

He's pathetic on the show in comparison. Really. He tortures and rapes one of the characters for DAYS in the comics while making another character listen and cuts on another's hand with no reason. He's off on the show, you can clearly tell that he's not 100% on the straight and narrow but it plays off a lot more as survival instinct and less as the deranged psychopath than it does in the comics. In the comics he's purely sadistic where as in the show you sort of can say, well he's just doing what he's doing so Woodbury will survive. In the comics there's no reason, he's just evil.

I think because I don't have the comics version to compare him to, he doesn't seem at all sympathetic to me or like he's doing what needs to be done to save Woodbury. He seems evil and scary to me and even more so because he hides that beneath this veneer of good leadership and respectability.

That being said, the comics version of him sounds like something to give me nightmares. *shudders* I'll prob read it at some point because my husband has them.

I really don't think so. I kinda roll my eyes at everyone who wants The Governor to be this balls-out, OTT insano, one-dimensional, shock value villain. That's not what TWD show has been about so far. It's about humans and change and survival. The fact that the governor has been a more normal guy with understandable motivations and is being pushed into a person who makes horrible choices is way creepier to me.

I agree that a One Dimensionally Evil Villain is way less scary and interesting than a more nuanced villain. I guess I'll just have to see what I think about the versions in comparison if I read the comics.

IDK, I don't think I would find a moustache-twirling eeeevil version of the Governor nearly as disturbing or frightening as the TV!Governor, who's so profoundly warped that he thinks he's the good guy. Maybe I'm just jaded, but what you're describing from the comics strikes me as very ho-hum villain-of-the-week sadist. TV!Governor is able to justify to himself the horrible, inhuman shit he does, and that's more frightening to me than a guy who's just evil for the sake of it.

I've seen very very little of The Walking Dead, but from what I've heard, if it were Danny Trejo, wouldn't he just be repeating his character from Con Air?

I don't know. Danny Trejo might be interesting but I think he looks too old and craggy for lack of a better term. Maybe an actor who is at least of Mexican heritage since Word of God is that the comic Governor is.

I feel like I'm the only one upset that they cast a white actor to play the Governor when he is half Mexican in the comics. Where is the outrage? Fandom is usually all over this kind of thing.

I'm Mexican. About half of my cousins are white, so yeah, I know they exist. But casting a white, British actor to play a character that is supposed to be Mexican is unacceptable. There are plenty of white Latinos who could have had the role if a white Governor was something they wanted.
