Sims 3

(Anonymous) 2013-01-02 12:44 am (UTC)(link)
I've been playing a lot of Sims 3. I like the creation changes (ie: The way you build your sims, especially all the hair options, and houses), but...in general I'm thinking it's not terribly for me. Gameplay feels so much *busier* but also a little inferior (plus, I don't care about the social media optional aspect).

My biggest complaint is the active household thing. I want to have a bunch a different fandom characters in a bunch of different households and be able to play all of them without having to worry if Dean is off getting married to a random sim and having kids while I'm trying to get Hermione to the top of her career track.

I suppose it will be good for legacy games (I just built a "Sandwich" house: Subway and his roommate Club Ohnry, who will eventually marry and have kids Chicken and Hero). And maybe if I want to, say, focus on Weasleys and don't care what other Potter characters I'm not terribly concerned about do when I'm not watching.

But I think overall, I'm going to be sticking with Sims 2. I DID just download the Sims 3 Pets and Supernatural packs, so maybe those will steal my heart.

(Also, I kind of thought people were being picky when they said the skins were ugly, but...they're pretty ugly, and I have a custom-content paranoia.)

Re: Sims 3

I do find that I sometimes prefer Sims 2, depending on my mood. If I want to play something whilst doing other things/too tired to concentrate I'll play 2, if I want a challenge or to create my personal fannish utopia or something I'll play 3.

Regarding the active household, if you turn off Story Progression in the options menu, the inactive households won't change.

Re: Sims 3

(Anonymous) 2013-01-02 01:11 am (UTC)(link)
Without story progression, will the inactive household still be able to interact with the active household's sims? And will the inactive sims retain memories of those interactions?

Re: Sims 3

(Anonymous) 2013-01-02 01:19 am (UTC)(link)
You can still interact with any other sims in the neighbourhood, and as both people share the same relationship bar, I believe that the inactive Sims will maintain their changed their relationships with the active sims.

I must admit, I have only played with it off for one household, so I am not really the person to ask. I found I enjoy having a neighbourhood for each household, I don't tendto make fandom neighbourhoods anymore. I have no idea about your memories question, but I recomend http://www.carls-sims-3-guide.com/ and its forum if you want more info.

Yeah, that's kind of how I feel about TS3. It was kind of a real let down. I just find it really boring, but that might be because I only have the base game. I went from having almost all expansions for TS2 to having none, and I don't feel like the game itself improved enough to make it feel like anything but a regression. (Unlike moving from TS1 with all EPs to TS2 base game, as TS2 was new and shiny enough to keep me interested even without pets and magic and such.)

I've heard TS3 is much better with at least one EP, but frankly, I don't have the money or the disk space, or even the desire for them. I'm perfectly content with TS2 and its expansions. I feel it's better for what I want to do - similar to you, I'm creating a neighbourhood filled with fandom characters, and I don't want them doing their own thing. It'll be a shame not to be able to go and visit other sims and stuff, but I managed for years without that feature, so I'll soldier on.

Hey. Look at the post relevant to what I'm doing at this exact moment. (Slutting up my Sims, FTW.)

I just maintain a huge neighborhood of Maxis made Sims descendants at this point so I love that my Sims go on with their lives with influence from me for some major things (marrying, having kids). I rarely stick in fandom characters.

You can turn off story progression and that will stop others in the neighborhood from making big life decisions. Also, there are mods that allow for Sims 2 style aging (only active household ages). I haven't used that particular function, but I recommend master controller (base mod and additions) and story progression from Nraas at the very least. http://nraas.wikispaces.com/

I love Sims 3 but I understand your issues with it. Almost all my Sims are fandom Sims and I want to carefully set up their relationships and homes, and damn do I hate when they go and have minds of their own.

Like, Molly from Sherlock started dating Bruce Wayne while I was decorating Selina Kyle's house. Which was amusing, but not what I wanted, so I broke them up. Then she moved in with Moriarty and started dating him, and later I found out she was still living with him but he had moved on to some random guy Sim.

John and Sherlock got married when I was playing as a different household, which really sucked. I WANTED A NICE WEDDING! WITH PICTURES!

And Hank McCoy hooked up with a random Sim girl (then married her) while I was trying to figure out who to set him up with. I just let that one go.

...So this is a long drawn-out way of saying, yea, if you have Sims 2 I don't blame you for sticking with that.

For some reason, your fannish crossover really amuses me. XD Molly begins dating Bruce Wayne--sounds like a good crack pairing to me!

If I hadn't been super intent on making Bruce/Selina happen, I would've left them be. They were quite a cute and interesting couple!

MOLLY FROM SHERLOCK STARTED DATING BRUCE WAYNE WHILE I WAS DECORATING SELINA KYLE'S HOUSE.

That sentence is a perfect sentence and you should feel good about it.

ALSO JIM LEFT MOLLY FOR A MAN WHEN YOU WEREN'T LOOKING POOR MOLLY LEFT BRUCE FOR MORIARTY AND NOW HER BOYFRIEND IS BANGING SOMEONE ELSE.

http://i.imgur.com/x9hbD.jpg Here's a picture of them being awkward.

Sims are crazy man. It's like watching a soap opera; you can never guess what they're going to do next.

Moriarty/Molly was doomed to fail anyway. Moriarty and Molly are both geniuses who love reading and science, and I think that's about all they have in common. Moriarty is evil and insane, Molly is good and sensible... how they even stay friends and live together is beyond me, but they make it work.

Maybe Molly decided she don't need no man? Actually, maybe I should make her a nice woman to date...

Moriarty and Molly also love death :D But that's hard to convey in a Sims personality :P

I love Sims but I haven't played them in forever but yes DRAMA QUEENS THE LOT OF THEM. I do love how Moriarty and Molly are still friends though. For some reason I find that very sweet.

Maybe Molly could date Hermione.

Gah, of course. Silly for me to leave out that one!

DRAMA QUEENS THE LOT OF THEM

That's one of the reasons I love Sims so much. Even the nicest, most well-balanced Sim have moments of pure insanity and drama. And it sort of is. Their friendship defies all boundaries.

Oh...that's an interesting suggestion. I'll have to think about that. I don't have any HP Sims but making an Emma Watson look-a-like would be fun! (Don't think I have any hair that would be fitting for Hermoine...but I might be able to make something work.)

I'm the OP of this thread (too lazy to log in before) and this actually makes me more interested in Sims 3. Not in an "abandon Sims 2" kind of way, but I don't feel as indifferent to it now. It also helps that I've just spent a lot of time wandering through China with the Sandwich/Ohnrye household, and I thought that was a lot of fun -- even if the two of them don't seem to be getting along right now.

But here's something that's bugging me: I'm playing in Bridgeport, the world that came with Late Night, because I wanted Club Ohnrye to be kind of a partier and go out to clubs. I also wanted to put down some of the lots that come with Pets, but I can't seem to find very many areas that will accept empty lots and none so far that will accept empty lots big enough for the pet community lots. Any advice? I suspect I may have to bulldoze some places...

I'm afraid I'm not going to be of much help in this regard, because I only have the base game. :/ So I'm not entirely sure about the expansions or how the alternate worlds work. I tried to look up a few things that might help though? Not sure if they will, but...

http://simsvip.com/game-guides/pets-game-guide/ (There's lots of info on Sims here, though I'm not sure if there's anything relevant to your question.

http://www.modthesims.info/showthread.php?t=383774 Here someone says "If you have Ambitions installed you can add blank lots of various sizes to existing neighbourhoods." Then someone replies saying you don't need Ambitions, just a fully patched game. Not sure how true that is, but I guess it's worth a shot? (And of course there are suggestions for mods in that link too, if you'd be interested. I've never downloaded a mod like that for Sims so I'm not sure how risky or how much trouble it might be, but it's an option, anyway.)

I'm going to pretend Random Guy Sim is Moran now. He's got as much characterization here as he does on Sherlock.

lmao, yessss. (I was never into Moriarty/Moran in Sherlock fandom, but this comment was amusing enough to convince me to ship it, if only in-game.)

This is cute! I love making fandom sims, it's so amusing. They haven't really been hooking up though, but they all end up being good friends, regardless.

Maybe I need to tweek their traits a bit. ;)

Could be! At least they socialize with each other? I love to see Sims become good friend without me having to intervene. Hooking up though...I'd rather they not do, lest they ruin my elaborate plans.

I'm sorry. I was barely reading your post, and I thought you had the Dean from Community hanging out with Hermione from Harry Potter, and it was so beautiful in my head these adventures they were having :(

OMFG BEST. They would get in the wackiest adventures!

Oh also as an aside I just realized I totally could put the Community gang all in one house. Guess I know how I'll be spending my time soon :P
