"Tween" for a preteen or young teenager. HATE IT so much. But it doesn't seem to be going anywhere.

Preteen is a perfectly good word. Can everyone please go back to using that instead?

DA but what do you do about the 13-14 yr olds?

NGL, I hate the word "tween", just because of the way it sounds, but I work with youth groups and we find that 11-14 is a good age group, better than splitting 8-12 and 13-17 or similar. We don't call them "tweens" but that's how most people think of them.

Whatever happened to "preteen"? That was a perfectly fine word. D:

I hate that one, but it's because my family always used it to mean someone in their early twenties, and it always confuses me when someone uses it for someone on the other side of teenager.

"Tween" means a hobbit in his or her twenties, not yet having reached official adulthood at thirty-three.

That's completely serious. It's in one of the Appendices, I think.
