Just my personal, highly subjective opinion regarding the comedy/horror genre. Striking the balance between horrific acts of violence or bleak, depressing scenarios and lighthearted or irreverent comedy is very difficult. I felt Zombieland came off as sociopathic and a miserable, abortive attempt at cashing in on both the popular zombie genre and popular comedy/horror genre.

DA

Have you seen Shaun of the Dead? What did you think of that?

Shaun of the Dead got the balance right. (If you forget the very end.)

Yet a DA: Oh yes, I hated that end so much. (But I did like Zombieland.)

hm, I was opposite. I liked zombieland but not shaun of the dead, which I thought wasn't well balanced.

Ah, see, for me Zombieland hit the balance almost perfectly, whereas Shaun of the Dead was a slightly-better-than-average romcom that happened to have zombies in it. I will admit that my typography fetish probably helped Zombieland out, though.

Oh wow, I thought the same about Zombieland! Now that someone else has asked you about Shaun of the Dead, I'd love to hear your opinion of Fido, if you've seen it. I liked that one a lot as well.

I haven't seen Fido in a long, long time. I liked it. I don't think I would consider it horror because, if I recall correctly, the larger horror elements were more in the background (stakes were lower because society was relatively stable). My opinion may be off, like I said, because it's been a while.
