I definitely fell out of love with SPN, but it wasn't sudden. It was a gradual thing, and although I couldn't possibly imagine giving the show up (because I was seriously obsessed with it for years), I did. The funny thing is I didn't even want to see (pictures or gifs) or hear about SPN for the longest time, but eventually it passed. Recently I started following someone who posts gifs from the earlier seasons (which are my favorite seasons) and now I have the urge to watch those again. (Tumblr is good for something!)

Also, Inception. I was prompting Arthur/Eames left and right, reading as much fic as I could get my grubby hands on and one day just went, "Gah, this is awful. Why do I like this? This is boring." To this day I don't know exactly what it was that made me dislike the pairing (Maybe I just overloaded on them? IDK, that's never happened to me before), but I couldn't stand it after that. Since Arthur/Eames was what the majority of fic was about, I dropped the fandom.

I totally did that with SPN as well. I didn't watch or follow anything from season 6 at all. I got dragged back in by season 7, but didn't get back into the fandom in anyway - which I think is the only reason I was able to remember why I enjoyed SPN so much in the first place. SPN fandom is truly a hellish place...

The show itself was the main reason I stopped watching, but the fandom didn't help. I know it isn't all bad, and that there are decent SPN fans (I've seen them!), but overall the fandom was just too wanky and there was too little new fic that fit my interests to stick around for it. I've seen a couple episodes of season 7, but nothing after that. Eventually I'll catch up but right now I'm in no rush. (And like you, even if I do, I doubt I'll be involved in the fandom again. At most I'd look for fic and stay away from everything else.)

I did the same thing with Arthur/Eames. it probably was overload, at least I think that's what happened to me, because one day I went to read some Arthur/Eames and there was just so much of it and they all sounded the same. I also tried other pairings but either there was hardly anything written about them or Arthur/Eames was inserted in the fic somewhere.

Yea, I'm with you, I don't know what it could've been if not overload. Which is sad because for a time I really loved it, but the kink meme was just bursting with it, to the point you could barely find anything but Arthur/Eames prompts for pages, and it was overwhelming and ridiculous. When you have that many people prompting the same pairing that rapidly, you tend to not get much variety.

I got into Arthur/Cobb and Cobb/Eames but both had so little fic. I was discouraged waiting on new fic while watching more and more Arthur/Eames be written, so that was the point I stepped away from it, I think.

Arthur/Eames was inserted in the fic somewhere

It's the worst when that happens. Especially if you're reading another pairing you really enjoy, then they slip in the one you hate as background. Grr.
