I'm really hoping the Fiscal Cliff talks fail.

It seems to me that this the only way this congress will ever accomplish anything useful. And part of me is gleeful that they've managed to set things up where they succeed best by doing what they are best at: failing.

The whole thing is just fucked

The fiscal cliff package does include a lot of spending cuts not to the military and a lot of tax increases for people besides the upper class that would be non-optimal. But yeah, the whole situation and the whole political machinery of America is just fucked. Any deal that they end up coming to is probably also going to be terrible, and it's unlikely that they will come to a deal, because they're incompetent.

And the political mainstream is so far removed from what people like you and I believe that the only way the government can do something that we wholly approve of is by failing. That really is kind of extraordinary.

The house actually passed the bill. No one is completely happy but at least they did something for a change.
