In which I imagine goblins with an extra (and magical) weapon...

Well as I understand it flatulence is mostly caused by bacteria in our large intestines fermenting carbohydrates our gut can't break down and producing methane and some other non-odorous gasses. Thus it is possible that different (and magical) species on a different (and magical) diet could digest their food better (or worse) and leave less (or more) material for their bacteria to break down causing less (or more) gas. Also, the bacteria could be different (or magical) and thus break down the material in a different (and magical) way leading to more/less/different/magical gas.

Take for instance a goblin who's intestinal bacteria break down material with lactic acid fermentation. Then remember that this is a fantasy novel and turbo charge that nonsense. Then remember heterolactic fermentation which also creates ethanol. Now you've got a cloud of flammable and acidic gas coming at you and it smells awful.

I'm sorry.

I'm not. That was awesome.

Goblins: the reverse dragon. Just add matches.
