My immediate social circle contains a Mormon who doesn't drink, two brothers who have the same weird food allergies that drastically restrict what types of alcohol they can safely consume (one of whom also has very peculiar tastes that further restrict what he will drink even when he can), two pregnant women who are off alcohol for the duration, and three people who are very finicky about beer, wine, and liquor (I fall into the last category). Our parties tend to run on caffeine rather than booze at the best of times; with both pregnancies and it being the Mormon's turn to host, our New Year's party was alcohol-free. We brought instruments and had a jam session in one room; the other room was watching '90s cartoons and making fun of them. While I missed having sparkling wine to toast in the new year with, the party was no less fun than usual. So - yeah, I think most parties are what you make of them.
