Could it be that talking to people' and 'doing fun things' are what parties are for in general, no matter what 'type' they are?

No, I can pretty much guarantee that at least my cultural sphere (young adult/college student) a fair amount of parties are about booze. And sex, and music, and food, but mostly booze.

There are lots of other ways to socialize and lots of other kinds of parties. The social aspect is definitely important for some people but the actual social interactions can be kind of shallow, at least in my opinion.

Not to say that some people don't really enjoy that. It just isn't for me. I prefer to stay sober lol. And being around drunk people is...amusing at times, neutral at times, but I've also had some really bad experiences with that, so.
