I told an FBI recruiter that I would consider applying for the FBI if I could work in the X-files Division.

He laughed. Turned out he was an X-files fan himself.

Hah, I guess you're not working for the FBI then? Also, do they like actively recruit people? And for what kind of positions exactly?
darth_eldritch: (tea ceremony)

[personal profile] darth_eldritch 2013-01-04 01:48 am (UTC)(link)
No, I didn't apply. I thought about it, but decided not to.

They'll recruit people coming out of the military. The FBI recruiter showed up at our transition to civilian life workshop.

As for what positions, I don't remember what they had available. Of course it all depended on what you did in the military, what college degree you have, your experience, or if they saw fit to retrain you, etc.

Interesting! I always wondered how people actually end up there.
darth_eldritch: (MIB The Galaxy)

[personal profile] darth_eldritch 2013-01-04 02:11 am (UTC)(link)
I think you can apply as a civilian, but you need a college degree.

(Anonymous) 2013-01-04 04:21 am (UTC)(link)
Most people just apply. They generally look for law enforcement experience, plus advanced degrees, skill with languages, ability with forensic accounting, or other specialized skills. I think most agents are former local police officers. If you're curious, you can look at their website for information about qualifications www.fib.gov

(Anonymous) 2013-01-04 04:22 am (UTC)(link)
Make that www.fbi.gov

(Anonymous) 2013-01-04 07:05 am (UTC)(link)
That is the most awesome slip ever.

(Anonymous) 2013-01-04 12:05 am (UTC)(link)
Um, actually, one of my friends interviewed with the FBI during the time the series was airing, and was told she could have Dana Scully's position.

Well, as an M.E., at least.

(Anonymous) 2013-01-04 12:07 am (UTC)(link)
Well, I mean, it's hardly the same thing unless you can deal with aliens and Duchovny, is it?

And hang out with the Three Gunmen. And have that awesome mood music playing everywhere you go. Really I think that would be the main part of it for me.

(Anonymous) 2013-01-04 12:12 am (UTC)(link)
I think I'd take the Lone Gunmen over Duchovny. At least Frohike has a decent sense of humor.

Though D&D night with the Gunmen and Mulder would be a highlight beyond.

(Anonymous) 2013-01-04 12:37 am (UTC)(link)
"Lord Manhammer" will never not make me giggle.

I remember thinking this back when I was first watching the show when I was about 14 :)
elaminator: (Avengers: Natasha)

[personal profile] elaminator 2013-01-04 12:23 am (UTC)(link)
Who wouldn't want that job? (Okay, there IS plenty of danger, but you'd certainly never be bored!)

And damn was Duchovny hot back then...
intrigueing: (happy nine)

[personal profile] intrigueing 2013-01-04 01:23 am (UTC)(link)
And you'd have plot immunity, so the danger wouldn't hurt you!
elaminator: (Firefly: Mal & Zoe)

Excellent point!

I very much feel the same, and not just about Mulder.

I was also really disappointed hat real archeologists don't really go on adventures like Indy,or that you can't really be a profiler in the same way like on Profiler or on Criminal Minds.

Reality is far less interesting.

[personal profile] lunabee34 2013-01-04 02:06 am (UTC)(link)
hahahahahaah

Hollywood even lies about the glam lives of college professors.

No one has ever written "Love You" on her eyelids and blinked at me from the first row. *pouts*

(Anonymous) 2013-01-04 04:23 am (UTC)(link)
Me neither. It's very disappointing.

(Anonymous) 2013-01-04 03:46 pm (UTC)(link)
You probably also don't look like Harrison Ford. :P

Someone all but did that to one of my theater professors. He was the Hot Professor, naturally. (I was the only straight female in that class that didn't have a raging crush on him.)
lunabee34: (Default)

[personal profile] lunabee34 2013-01-05 02:18 am (UTC)(link)
No. No, I do not. LOL

(Anonymous) 2013-01-04 04:30 am (UTC)(link)
Ugh, TV and movies present such an unrealistic view of the criminal justice system. I am a college professor in Criminal Justice and have to spend a good deal of my time disabusing my students of their fantasy career notions. At least once every open house I have to inform some high school senior that she can't get a Bachelor's degree and then check the want ads for Profiler jobs or that you can't simply apply to be a detective. The worst in more recent years have been the stream of kids who want to be crime scene analysts or forensic scientists until they find out that they have to study science and the law. Suddenly it seems less compelling to them.
ext_84085: (X-Files - !?)

[identity profile] lunayoshi.livejournal.com 2013-01-04 07:17 am (UTC)(link)
If it makes you feel any better, technically he shouldn't have been either because he's red-green colorblind and you can't be colorblind and be recruited into the FBI?

Maybe if you had a sinister cigarette-smoking dad guy pulling some strings behind the scenes... ;P

But yeah, anon, I wanted to be Scully when I grew up. I still do, but not professionally--just personally. She was SO strong in a world full of grouchy old men. I wanted to be a strong woman in a world full of grouchy old men. Now I just want to be a strong woman.
