Yup. Negotiations have been in action since the '80's for either updated or live action Gatch. The 80's OVAs were more or less a test to see how it might go over.

Gatch still remains highly popular in Japan, which is probably why the talks/negotiations are still ongoing. Up until a couple of years ago, the studio that produced TMNT had the rights to do a movie, but that fell through (yet again).

Yeah, same here. I'd love to see a Gatchaman movie. It would have to have Berge Katse in it, though... (-:

Because there's a Japanese one coming out this year.
