I've met a few people whose favourite subject is themselves. One, in particular, derailed every single conversation towards her health and she proceeded to list all of her more or less real ailments, which were always worse than anything you or your relatives and friends had experienced. In detail.

Ooooh I know a few of those as well. I had a friend once who expected me to be her agony aunt. After I basically 'aha mhm you poor thing'ed her, showing no real interest in what she was saying, we're no longer in touch. What a curious happenstance coincidence.

Curious indeed! I naively, at first, listened to her and believed her, tried to be comforting. After a while, I realised that some/most? of what she told me was probably a lie and just made noises at the right times while trying to get away whenever she tried to launch one of her (sometime hour-long) diatribes during which she would hear no reason, let alone listen to what other people might have to say. After a year of us sharing the same class, she got pregnant from her long-time boyfriend, put university on hold and she moved away. I don't see her anymore.

I hear you about the hour-long diatribes. This girl I mentioned? Had a thing for hours-long telephone calls. Nope, you're not interrupting my life in any way whatsoever. I was dying to listen to your sob stories, most of which are a direct product of you being an idiot. Sure I want to hear about people I've never met, and an excruciatingly detailed description of how their lives intersect with yours, only to fuck it up and make it *so* hard. My problems are unimportant/nonexistent, of course I want in on yours. Oh, you dismiss a comment on one of my problems and go back to yours? Thanks for lending me your ear for half a second there! I should be grateful.

RAAAAGH Two years and she still manages to make me mad. I'll stop know, lest I turn into her and talk your ears off (type your eyes out?).
