My mother has a whole damn list of these. It's taken me twenty years to figure out how to navigate a conversation with her in such a way to avoid key phrases and ideas that spur her into hijacking our conversation into any of those topics, because I've only in the last couple of years (since leaving home for college) been able to finally crack the code to the pattern that indicates the warning signs that Concept X has been added to her secondary list of Concepts Standing By For Hijacking into Topic Y At A Moment's Notice.

I love her, but damn.
