like others said, this depends on how your computer is put together

I once had something similar happen (it didn't take out the power in the entire room, but it did everything else), and it turned out that my motherbroad was fried

the problem was that the motherboard had everything (video card, sound card, etc.) right in it instead of being a separate deal, so it took everything but the hard-drive with it
