Self-insertion.

This is actually why I avoid writing Darcy - I'm a Political Science major, too, and I share a couple of personality traits with her from the movie. And the way fandom typically writes her into fic (popping in with advice on everything, and being some kind of PR or PA person) is not that dissimilar to my relationship with a lot of my own friends or other people in my life. (And worse on the PR angle, my other major is Communications, media emphasis). Not to mention the amount of fics that write her as bisexual.

So yeah, without me even touching her character, she's already a self-insert of me. It would be pretty tough for me to write her well. Which sucks because I was looking forward to writing her as a character when I started dipping my toes into fandom. :(
