(Anonymous) 2013-01-04 05:35 am (UTC)(link)Eh, I was mostly reacting to the "why bother having rules" sentiment I picked up (maybe erroneously) from the other posts because I see it a lot in general. The "comic books shouldn't have to make sense" thing gets under my skin, particularly given how people still have to struggle to get the medium taken seriously. And I dunno, it bothers me that this is the one fictional medium where the creators think it's totally acceptable to just make up whatever they want and not bother figuring out how to slot it smoothly into the universe, let alone explain it properly.
And, well, I don't think secondary mutations are a completely inappropriate example of that. Not the best one either, sure, but it's part of a trend.
