Me too, OP. Thorin dying has always upset me, ever since I was a kid reading the book and watching the Rankin/Bass cartoon, so throw in the addition of being played by an actor I really love and I'm already a mess over it.

I was not as emotionally invested in Thorin's character in the book as I can tell I will be at the end of these movies, and I know it'll be a cryfest for me when he dies, too.

I remember when I read The Hobbit as a kid, I could not BELIEVE Thorin dies at the end. (We didn't have George R.R. Martin back then to desensitize everyone to character death!) Seeing it in the movie will be even worse. :(


I got really choked up when Boromir died in LOTR, too.

I could believe Thorin dying, but I couldn't believe both of his nephews did too. That was damn uncalled for! (It does make for fabulous angst, though.)

Dude, I am going to be A MESS. I first read it when I was 12, and that part was sad and shocking and I was not a fan. But now this movie's thrown in a whole lot more emotional stakes - the quest in general isn't so much about them getting all their gold and shit back, it's about their home. Thorin's got a Nemesis here and if that doesn't show up in the Battle of Five Armies, I will be fucking shocked. Also, just the way he's written and the way Armitage plays him, I care more about Thorin in this movie than I ever did before and just....flsjndfhyre yeah. The third movie's gonna be rough.

I'm more worried/sad about Fili and Kili's deaths. I think I was 11 when I first read the Hobbit and I ugly sobbed for hours. They were my favorites ):
