I've been on a couple of dates, and usually gotten call-backs for each one, but nothing's really stuck. Don't feel self-conscious, but, y'know, limit your expectations?

Online dating depends a lot on your location, and on the site you use. I've heard more bad than good about OKcupid, but your experience might be different. :)

I've only met one person on OkCupid that I felt comfortable meeting up with. We never dated but we hang out sometimes and she's pretty cool. My friend met his current partner through OkC and they've been together for about a year and a half and have a place together. So I guess...ymmv? Good luck!

Can't speak from my own experience, but one of my old teachers met his wife through online dating. So, you know, it works sometimes.

The stigma of online dating is fading and more people are signing up. There's no reason to feel self-conscious about it and with more people using it, the chances of meeting someone are much higher. It varies by area, but overall it's much better than it was 10 years ago.

I set up an okcupid account while a ago and am going on two dates this week (first tomorrow) It's totally nerve wracking. I have no idea if either will workout, but I'll give it a try. Just make sure to meet them in open places (I'm doing coffee for both. Cheap, easy, and and exit is always available).

(This is what I found for men. If you are contacting women, the thing mentioned next may not be valid.) I find that if a guy says "my woman at anytime" seriously, don't talk to them. Also, at least in my area, guys have generally been nice. I have only had one problem and it resolved itself nicely as I never spoke to him again. Don't feel like its necessary to message every guy who messages you back. And look at what questions they have answered and their responses. They can be very revealing. Also I never respond to anyone who doesn't use capitals and doesn't say more then a "hey what's up" in their message.
