I've seen it argued that most human-elf relationship result in elf-like humans, in that they have some elven looks, talents, etc., probably live a long time, but eventually die and pass beyond the circles of the world. --The Prince of Dol Amroth is said to have elven blood in his family somewhere, and no one seemed to think it was implausible.

The story in LOTR is that they descended from one of Nimrodel's company.(Nimrodel was queen in Lothlorien before Galadriel, who left for Valinor when the Balrog appeared in Moria and was lost.)
