I mean, if we look at "rape" as violation of the body, then the same thing happening to the mind could also be considered a type of "rape".
At least, that's my opinion of it. /shrug
(Though admittedly the word "rape" does get used too often to mean things that aren't rape, like the term "facebook rape". That's just... No.)

I'd say that if the mind control is used for a sexual purpose, it's mind rape. Otherwise, it's still not ok, but it's not rape.

I think we're just going to have to agree to disagree on this, though, because I don't think that there has to be a sexual component for something to be considered "mind rape", as long as there is non-consensual force against a person self/mind/soul/whatever is important in the context of the narrative.
It is hard to tell, though, given that we do not have the ability to go into people's minds the same way that happens in fiction, and thus we have nothing to compare it directly to.

(Anonymous) 2013-01-05 01:42 am (UTC)(link)I see where you're coming from, though, that rape refers to a specific act and everything else is an analogy ("as bad as rape").

(Anonymous) 2013-01-05 05:09 am (UTC)(link)For example, using mind control to get sex could fall under mind rape [or even physical rape], but, depending on the means and circumstances, it could also fall under something much closer to Stockholm syndrome, or perhaps 'sex under false pretenses'.
By the same token, I've seen some scenes in fiction that I would defiantly classify as being far closer to rape despite there being no physical context *because* it was a violent invasion of the victims mind, generally while the victim was awake, aware of it and very obviously against it while being hurt by it [and having no control over what the assailant accessed/went through/etc in the mind.]
tl;dr: I agree what happened with Bunny wasn't mind rape [though I would argue that it wasn't right of Jack to do either], but that what is does very depending on circumstances, methods and the impact on the victim.
