3 & 11

3) Perhaps those of us who played FF7 when it first came out are a little biased. It was the first game I played on the Playstation -- hell, I bought a Playstation specifically for 7. I'll never forget how awed I was by the (then) incredible graphics and the beautiful cut scenes.

And the story, while it may seem trite and old hat now, was stunning. In fact, only Suikoden 1 & 2 match F7 for story & replayability in my book.

Yes, there are other great games out there, but nothing has topped 7 for me. Not yet.

11) Granted, I don't go looking for PoT fic, but I get the feeling Ryoma doesn't get a lot of love, period. FWIW, I think Momo and Ryoma are very slashable. The only question is who's gonna top. *g*

Ryoma would probably want to try xD but he doesn't have anything to do it with D: *PoT movie plz lolol*
so Momo would have to top, Ryoma liking it or not xD

I never saw the movie. It just sounded far too silly (and considering how out there the series went, and the fact that I watched it all, that's saying something). It now seems like I made a wise choice.

Re: Re: 3--

You know, I never really thought of it that way. I loved 7 at first, and then I kind of grew away from it, and then I started going "GRR SO OVERHYYYYYYYYYYYPED" and then, well! LOL KEWL TO HATE FF7.

But when I think about it? My experience was the same as yours. It was the first game I played on the playstation, the story swallowed me whole, and I was in awe at the time. It still didn't manage to top Chrono Trigger in my book, but at the time? It was up there!

I loved Chrono Trigger too. (and now have the battle music stuck in my head.)

And yeah, the compilation has made many fans feel over saturated. However, I cannot wait for Crisis Core.

IAWTC!!! There seems to be so much hate for him. ;_;

I always thought Ryoma would top, because he's too bitchy and wouldn't bottom that easily. Momo is kinda the same, so they'd argue it out.

I don't know...

To be honest, I think they'd switch. But the first time? Ryoma.

I had the exact same experience as you. XDD I had a choice between an N64 and a Playstation when I was about ten years old. I very nearly chose the N64 BUT THEN I SAW THAT OLD FFVII COMMERCIAL THAT USED TO PLAY ALL THE TIME and was just like: "OH SHIT, IF I DON'T PLAY THAT GAME MY LIFE WILL END."

It wasn't the graphics that blew me away, it was the fact that it has *SO MUCH* story. I'd never experienced anything like that. I was all: "Video games can be like books!?!?!?!? THIS IS ONE OF THE BIGGEST REVELATIONS OF MY ENTIRE CHILDHOOD OMGWUT."

The only other game that's really hit me the same way was the original Metal Gear Solid and maybe Xenogears (oh shit, I haven't been wowed by a game since 1999 D:).

So, well, maybe that's it. I still don't think that FFVII's story is "trite" or "old newz" since compared to 90% of the RPG's I've played, it still has one of the most distinct and individual (dare I say original!) storylines of all of them (and I have played a lot of RPGs). But people who play the game years after have a hard time seeing through the hype, especially now that the anthology's gained so much popularity. I talk to so many people who have an incredibly warped view (both negative and positive) on the original canon I sometimes feel like no one even remembers the actual game anymore. *sigh*

The hype has been a not good thing. It makes me sad, because with every new release of the compilation my first reaction is "Yay, new canon!" and everyone else's seems be, "Groan. Let it DIE already."

(oh shit, I haven't been wowed by a game since 1999 D:)

I gotta plug the Suikoden series, assuming you haven't already played it. 1 and 2 are incredible, and 5 is a close runner up. 3 and 4 were all right, but I can't, in all good conscience, recommend them.

Of course, I'd totally agree to that. I played Lunar first and long before FF7, and that's why I am favourably biased towards it. I don't hate FF7, contrary to the beliefs of some here, but it isn't my favourite and it, in my personal gaming opinion, pales in comparison to my first PlayStation RPG Lunar.

*nods* That's totally cool. I read the secret as jumping on the FF7 hate bandwagon and just had to say something. My bad.
