OT, but wow, your icon is really annoying and because it's on the first comment, it's giving me a headache every time I scroll past.

What is it with this sudden spate of icons that are gifs on a super-short jerky loop that exploded all over lj/dw last spring? They are so damn irritating and ugly and have no positive traits I can think of.

Agreed. On everything. It's really frustrating. I ended up having to block those images, which is just annoying.

Expecting people's personal icons to conform for your own personal comfort: more annoying.

The liked the icon. They used the icon. It's not complicated.

Being able to express my opinion, not that complicated. I did not say a single thing about them having to conform for my personal comfort. Nor did I say anything about how they shouldn't use it. I simply expressed that I find the icons annoying and bothersome and that I blocked them.

I didn't like the icon. I replied saying that. It's not complicated.

You didn't just reply saying that you didn't like the icon. You whined about your discomfort and insulted those who like something that you don't.

The right to express your opinion does not also give you the right to be an asshole about it. Also, people are allowed to express the opinion that they don't like your opinion, and that they think you're being annoying.

vov I didn't even notice it

you can block gifs

Firefox:
go to about:config
set image.animation_mode to none

Opera:
press F12
unselect Enable GIF animation

Internet Explorer:
go to Internet Options < Advanced < Multimedia
unselect Play animations in web pages

I think if you hit "Esc" key on windows it also stops all the gifs in the current page

If you're the anon who posted this on a secret the other day, *thank you!* I used the Firefox one and it's bliss to be able to let a page load without having to dive for the escape button once a pageful of gifs hit my eyes.

And let me say thank you for the esc trick! They don't bother me particularly, but when tumblr is trying to load a lengthy page of nothing but gifsets and it's using up so much bandwidth I can't even scroll, I'll be using this one.
