Derek's creeper nature is most of his appeal, tbh.

But people complain about the Nice Guy because...? Or about Twilight, for that matter? Because hey, maybe at some point of the show everything changes and Derek becomes this super nice dude who respects peoples boundaries and stuff, but from what little I've seen, he's not much better than Edward.

Because the nice guy isn't shown in show as being creepy as fuck, his behavior is generally treated as cute. There are some people who woobify Derek and gloss over his creepiness, but most people recognize said creepiness as being fucking creepy and highly inappropriate. He's also not the most popular person in the show as a result of his behavior, and rightly so. The dude isn't really Mr. Popularity. Also, Derek's creeper nature is not shown as being romantic in the show or some sign of his ~deeper love~ for anyone (since he's not romantically involved with anyone in canon) and Edward's behavior is. It's shown as him being creepy, having no general clue about appropriate behavior, using intimidation tactics to get what he wants because he has very little clue how to go about things in any other way and also being utterly shitty at human interaction.

Because his creepiness is directed at guys and not a girl. Slash fandom interprets it as true love and doesn't see the double standard.
