The other way around how? The Earth is absolutely not a waste of the Doctor's time? The Doctor is a waste of the Earth's time? Your original comment seems to just be some random comment about how the Doctor is not god, which is a good comment but...doesn't have anything to do with the secret? *iz confuzzled*

It's the attitude of aliens towards Earth. Either they all want to kill us because we are nothing, or they want to protect us because we are ~special~ and both ideas are pushed to the point of bullshit in the Whoverse. The OP seems to wonder why the Doctor finds Earth so worth saving, and that he should turn his head away in shame at how awful we are. But if she's using the whoverse as an example, no where else has a society that is any less flawed.

Yes, in RL we are short-sighted and stupid, cruel, capricious and every other bad adjective that can be named, and that needs to be fought. But in the absence of RL aliens (or even fictional ones) who are handling the difficulties of life better than we are, we are stuck with doing our best on our own. We are the center of our own universe, and we are special to ourselves, and while thinking of RL -- it's best to be both more forgiving and less forgiving of our faults than the Doctor is. He is, after all, very black and white about his attitude towards humanity.
