If the author isn't trying to sell it as a good thing (and I've honestly rarely seen this in this kind of fic), then your problem isn't abo-verse, it's shitty worlds with good people in em. Which exist in so many variations outside this kink that you should probably take your problem to shitty worlds with good people in them, not the abo trope.
