I don't get this particular universe/concept either, but dystopia is a thing, and not everyone reads/watches/whatevers fantasy to escape to a happy fulfilling place. Actually, post Hunger Games, it has sort of become the Next Big Thing in young adult literature, and if you throw in all the zombie stuff that's popular now, it's not just young adult literature, it's everywhere. Hell, look at Game of Thrones, which is explicitly "fantasy is not fun and games." But from what I've seen, the A/B/O (is anyone else going to cringe or snicker the next time they give blood, or is that just me?) set-up isn't necessarily presented as dystopian, when I honestly have trouble picturing it as anything else. It's like the set-up for a horror movie.
