'To communicate and have fun,' yes, but it actually does harsh some people's squee when they see a post that they go all mental red pen on. It's an ingrained reflex for some of us.

That and the fact that people are only asking for the odd proper punctuation and for the shift key to get used correctly, not for academic-style formatting with footnotes and references. It's not that hard. Literally the only thing most people would have to do is occasionally employ the shift key.

That and I've heard this excuse from roleplayers before to excuse their terrible grammar. 'It's not English class! I don't have to type properly!' and so on. There are people out there using actual text speak in written prose, which to me is a signal to never thread with them, ever.

Learn to curb the impulse or keep it to yourself, I guess. The rest of us--yes, even those of us who are in very communication-heavy fields--manage just fine with the tumblr culture quirks.

I don't bring it up unless it's relevant/someone starts a discussion on it. It just twigs me is all.

It is, which is why I don't bring it up unless it's relevant. This was a conversation about language conventions online--so it was relevant. I don't run around reblogging posts with corrected language or anything since that'd be rude. I give a mental sigh and move on.

ayrt

well i've no idea about rp standards and stuff but yeah i'm sorry about your reflex. your life must be very difficult. i hope you get some help with that because lbr fandom's not gonna change for you.

also some of us often type with our phones where capitalization is a bitch (i'm literally struggling to find apostrophes rn) and believe it or not but for a lot of people the rules of english aren't a huge fucking deal. idk i think language is just really fucking cool and however people decide to play with it is pretty amazing to me so i guess my reflex is to go cry moar when i see stuff like this.

I don't actually go around correcting people's grammar unless they ask me to. But I spend a lot of time posting on forums, not nearly as much on Tumblr, and you can't really make long posts on forums using your phone--so it's definitely not that.

If people are typing with their phones that's fine--and one of the reasons I don't say anything unless I'm asked to or it comes up. It's a mental twig and I try not to be an ass about it.
