I don't mind that he's credited as the one who made it popular. I mind that he's credited with creating it. And here, it was not treated as if it was popular because of him, but as if he had created it and you couldn't possibly get the full use of a very obvious phrase without having watching Firefly. THAT's why I'm baffled.

In México, we have a very popular expression: "Fue sin querer, queriendo" (I did it on purpose, without meaning to). It was created by a popular TV show, but no one will tell you that you have to see said show in order to get the joke. And no one expects you to know the show and be able to talk about it if you use that expression because the meaning of it is obvious on itself. That's why this puzzles me so much.

Well I do agree with you on that, I've never watched Firefly and I understand well enough the meaning of "I'll be in my bunk". I even understand that most folk know it from Firefly, but I don't see any particular need fro me to watch it.
