Yeah, that's a weird thing for people to think. Is it that weird to just like something that happens to be in a foreign language?

And anyway, what's wrong with fetishizing a language, really? A culture, or people from a certain place, yeah. But a language? I guess I do it sometimes. I like to listen to things that are in foreign languages in general, and have one in particular that I really like the sound of (and it's not even one of the ones that's supposed to be attractive).

Yeah. I fail to see the problem there. Each language has a distinctive sound and melody and if I were to find one particularly appealing, I really don't see anything wrong with that at all.

*shrug* You know what all the words mean in English, so really, you're just judging on acting and musical ability - neither of which need you to understand the language.

Heck, most people who watch operas don't understand the language they're sung in, and no one accuses them of fetishizing a language.

Word. I don't understand a word of Spanish, but Lydia Fairen's version of "On My Own" gives me chills whenever I hear it. That woman has a gorgeous voice.

I don't think anyone would think that! I love hearing shows in different languages, and even if you can't understand the words, you can still tell if the performance is good. Some of my favourite Les Mis performances are in languages I don't speak more than two words of. Seriously, don't worry about it.

I like that cast too! It's wonderful and their voices are so powerful! I do speak spanish , though I'm Peruvian, not Spanish.
Also, I think they actually even say Enjolras name, but pronounced badly. At least they tried?

OK, the Spanish cast? Is AMAZING. Language isn't really important in these cases, people listen to and compare casts from all countries. There's a consensus that the Spanish cast was amazing (I just saw Geronimo Rauch on the west end and I can totally see what everyone is talking about).

A cast is a cast and singers can be amazing in any language. And hey, if it's a language you enjoy too? All the better :)

Also, check out the Polish cast's flash mob promo and the international JVJs on the 10th anniversary concert. There's also a vid of a Hungarian Javert singing "Stars" that is incredible.
