"I'm starting to think the only way you can use Tumblr is if you have no life" is probably it.

Well, I can see how the OP feels like that because of the lack of a good archive search fuction. Some people reblog 10-20 posts at a time, several times a the day so you'll need to go back pages and pages to pick up from where you were the day before.

Also, if you're looking for a friend's reply to your post but the friend is one of those rebloggers, I can imagine the pain of going through pages and pages of their posts to find it. :/

Yeah, I didn't think they were trying to be rude - it's just that that's really how it feels sometimes. Things move so fast over there that it seems like it's impossible to keep up. It's not a comment on any particular user. It's just that if you weren't right there sometimes when something happened, you may never know what everyone's so worked about. ;)

*nods*

This was the sense I got as well--not that the OP actually thinks that Tumblr users don't have lives but that he or she feels unable to keep up with the pace of the site, is really frustrated, and doesn't understand how other people manage to do so.

I imagine many people, no matter what fannish platform they're using, have felt this way at some point. I know that when I first got into LJ fandom, it frustrated me that I couldn't be online more and so missed being among the first to post episode tag fic or respond quickly to the flashfic prompt or whatever. I got over that LOL but I can understand OP feeling left behind or left out or just overwhelmed and unable to keep up.

I agree. I'm on Tumblr, and there are times when I decide to catch up with my dash and eventually realize that there have been more twenty pages worth of posts since the day before. If you try to keep up with everything, it can feel like something you have to do 24/7, and can stop being fun pretty quickly.

This could happen on LJ too. In fact, it often did (at least to me).

But on LJ you can start reading someone's journal from a specific day or month and you don't need to search through their entire journal to find their reblogged comment to your reblogged comment - you just need to bookmark the entry you were discussing.

In terms of meaningful conversations with multiple participants, LJ is much better.

There is no cheering up Sisko.

Because of racism in 1950's America towards black scifi writers.
