I just meant browse the tags but not bother reblogging + tagging if that's giving you trouble. Lurking with an account sounds easier than lurking without one.

Though I DID used to lurk on tumblr without an account, but again IDK what I'm doing on tumblr so I never understood there was anything wrong with it. The chronological thing is a huge surprise to me (and senseless); was that change very recent, or did I somehow not notice?)

Are you the OP? I'd suggest just making an account and using that to browse the tags with. IDK which parts of tumblr are giving you trouble so I'm not sure what advice to offer beyond that. :(

(Not that I'd be the person to give tumblr advice in the first place...)

No I'm not the OP. Thank you though for the clarification. :)

was that change very recent, or did I somehow not notice?

I think it was rather recent. Or at least in the past couple months recent. Tumblr really good at keeping logged in, so I don't know how long it was before they first implemented it and I noticed for the first time.

At least all of LJ's changes tend to be well documented, even if they suck.

Huh...I honestly don't believe I noticed it. You'd think that would be the sort of thing you WOULD notice, but I just assumed all the posts were in chronological order.

That's true, yea. You might not like what changes LJ makes, but at least they inform you about them. lol.

Well, the change only affects people who aren't logged in, so if you have an account that keeps you logged in, I don't think there's anyway to notice it. The only reason I found out about it was because I was using a different browser that day, and then the changes were very noticeable.

As to why they'd make a change that affects non-users but not users? No idea. Like the anon below suggested, passive-aggressive way to push people into making accounts is my only guess.

Not very long ago I didn't have an account and only used tumblr by browsing tags. ...But yea, still didn't know that was an issue.

I can't imagine a reason for them doing this that isn't nasty either. :/

AYRT responding to your edit

Yes, as the poster above me said, it's pretty recent. And I agree it's senseless, unless they're trying to force people to get accounts or deliberately trying to drive away some of the drive-by traffic for other things besides pretty pics. *shrugs* Who knows.

unless they're trying to force people to get accounts

Maybe they are? I guess that would be a good strategy if they want more users.

(But like you said, it would still drive away some users. Casual ones for sure, I imagine.)
