Personally, I will forever continue to hold that Season 4 of SJA >>>>>>> Season 6 of Doctor Who. I just wish - and I think I've talked about this every time SJA comes up in f!s - that more people would give it a chance. I tell friends with similar tastes as mine "IMHO SJA is a lot better than Torchwood" and they still go off and watch Torchwood, later complaining that it doesn't have the fun and love that Doctor Who has.

So. Damn. Frustrating.

But yeah, that scene with Jo and the Doctor on the red planet was so beautifully written. Not to mention it also served as a "fuck you" to all the people who get into flame wars over which companions are better than others and write off the ones they don't like as stupid damsels-in-distress who never "deserved" the Doctor.

And that GIF is lovely. Finding the source now so I can reblog/save it for later.

I don't get that sentiment in fans. Sure, Torchwood's entertaining too, but there's almost nothing Who-ish about it other than the superficial trappings. Hell, it's meant to be kinda the anti-Who. SJA isn't much more "kiddy" than Classic Who apart from the low death count. If you want a Who-ish show that isn't Who, SJA is the place to go! Sure, it's mostly earthlocked and all, but how is that different from the bulk of Pertwee's era?

And oh damn I did mean to include the source! It's here: http://crikeydave.tumblr.com/post/32300514679/no-matter-how-many-times-i-see-this-scene-from

Exactly! I mean off of the top of my head you've got:

1. The guest appearance of both the 10th and 11th Doctors (making the Clyde and Rani multi-Doctor companions, something they only share with Rose, Jack, and Mickey in the new series)
2. The guest appearance of past companions such as the Brig and Jo Grant
3. The inclusion of many aliens from the main show including Slitheen, Judoon, Sontarans, the Trickster...

None of which are in Torchwood. (Is there a single alien in Torchwood that's also appeared in Doctor Who?) Also, on the subject of "kiddy" I've never liked the idea that more guns and sex = more adult. It's like a teenager who wears black to try and seem edgy.

ETA: Oh and thanks for the source!

YES. I cannot describe how much I simply fucking hate competitions and arguments about the relative worth of characters in anything, and it especially irritates me in Who fandom, where the whole point is that every single companion is unique and important and he loves all of them (it also annoys me with arguments about the different incarnations of the Doctors).

(That gif = lump in my throat <3)
