I'm in the same boat as OP - the bus stop is an hour away, and the only stop that has late-night or Sunday buses is more than two. I usually opt for peppy songs on the radio to improve my pace a bit, though.

Someone's been trying to get a crappy old car fixed up for me and over the holidays I found out it's ALMOST done...now I just need to worry about whether I'm too old to pick up the reflexes when learning to drive.

I got my license in my mid-20s. I feel confident in my driving now, though I definitely prefer small cars to big ones. You'll pick up on reflexes soon enough.
