5- Okay, I can relate, because I used to think the same way. Last summer, a whole fuckton of my friends started collecting, and I actually looked down on them. Now I own a damn doll.

But honestly? How is that different from the person who saves up for a $5000 TV, or buys a $60 video game once a week? or the people who obsessively buy manga, or eat fast food every day? Nobody NEEDS these things, but if it's what makes you happy, it's what makes you HAPPY. Sure a doll is considered "pointless" by a lot of people - but a person who doesn't like video games would consider buying them pointless AND a waste of time. It's just any other hobby, really. Why do people collect coins, or stamps, or action figures? There's no real PURPOSE for any of it; it's just a matter of perception, I guess.

That said, YES, a lot of the fandom can be pretty elitist. There's certain cliques on DoA, and certain people who are BNFs, but then there's the super nice people too! It's just like any other fandom, really. :B

I dunno. Just don't start looking into it too much. You'll inevitably want one. Then you'll buy a doll... then you'll buy accessories obsessively... then inevitably end up wanting a Cerberus Project Woosoo... and it's a very slippery slope from there. :D

/tldr!

IAWTC. So hard.

I will never want one of these dolls. I will never waste my money on one. I will never waste even more money on little clothes for them. I won't ever want a Cerberus Project Woosoo, whatever the hell that is.

But that's just because I don't find these dolls interesting at all. I'd rather spend my money on other things.

[identity profile] fairness.livejournal.com 2007-08-27 11:15 pm (UTC)(link)
Well, if you don't find them interesting, all the power to you. XD

It just seems to me that the people who bitch about them so much seem to be preoccupied and all end up wanting one, somehow.

Yeeessss.

However, Woosoo wantage is not compulsory 8D

[identity profile] fairness.livejournal.com 2007-08-28 12:38 am (UTC)(link)
If you're a CP whore like me, it's inevitable. :((( GODDAMN EXPENSIVE DORRIES.

[identity profile] shinysilvercoin.livejournal.com 2007-08-28 12:39 am (UTC)(link)
I am tooo~ XD But while I like Woosoo, I definitely don't need one. I'm doing a split on a Lu-Wen vamp head right now though 8D

[identity profile] fairness.livejournal.com 2007-08-28 12:42 am (UTC)(link)
It's not a NEED thing yet for me, but I'm slowly making the shift from "good god they're too expensive" to "oh man I wouldn't mind having one :(((" so I figure... oh god soon. D:

... oooh. LUCKY. I'd love a Lu-Wen!

[identity profile] shinysilvercoin.livejournal.com 2007-08-28 12:46 am (UTC)(link)
A friend of mine wanted a Woosoo for years, and she just recently managed to purchase one :3 So yeah, while they're expensive, they're not impossible to come by (despite the 20+ WTB threads on the MP at any one time). So if your want does turn to need, at least.. it shouldn't be THAT hard to empty your pockets? XD

Yah, he's a lovely boy. Luckily two friends of mine wanted the body and open eyed head each, so I'm getting a split easily and at a good price. The type-3 body is a thing of wonder, though, so I hope to get one someday :3

[identity profile] fairness.livejournal.com 2007-08-28 12:49 am (UTC)(link)
Oooh, good to know! It seems that they're super hard to find (granted, I've only been into bjd since the end of last year!) so it gets a little frustrating even considering wanting one. XD

Ooh, lucky you! I really wanted one, but being poor sucks. I'm totally in LOVE with the type-3 body though, so I'm probably going to set my eyes on that for now. *__*

[identity profile] shinysilvercoin.livejournal.com 2007-08-28 12:54 am (UTC)(link)
I know just what you mean XD It always seems that the few rare dolls that I want are available on the MP when I DON'T have the money, and I have to pass. It's just how it is.

Well the type-3 body doesn't seem set for proper release until after Christmas, so you've got time to save up :3 I've been spoilt by the domuya flexi-body's posing abilities recently, so I'm really interested in those double joints *___*
