Dollhouse miniatures. Making a 1:12 scale interior of houses/rooms, including the people. Mine are set in various historical times. I make a lot of it myself, rather than buying, but (one of my) my dollhouse cost $700 just for the basic shell. I got it as a 17th birthday present. (designed it myself. It's fecking huge though, hence the expense), and I still have to work on wallpapering, painting, windows, doors, flooring, etc. I've got most of the furniture and accessories already for it though, so it's just sitting in there without wallpaper so far. Mum's in the hobby too. And it's a way to socialise with people, you can use any craft for it, just tiny obviously, and it's also highly imaginative. Most of the people who do it though are retired, so I'm just a freak. :P It's not like I go and spend hundreds of dollars on it each month, but about once a year at the fairs, we lash out and buy... quite a lot of stuff. Or supplies to MAKE our own stuff.
